Unit 18: Class banquet
Day five: Writing recipes
Objective
- Students will be able to write a target-language version of the recipes they have chosen for their class banquet.
- Students will illustrate each prepared food or drink for a class recipe book.
- Students will work in groups.
Setting the Stage (5 minutes)
Teacher shows the class his/her illustration of the recipe he/she prepared for the class for Day Four. Teacher recycles the vocabulary of the actual recipe and preparation of the food as a review.
Input (20 minutes)
Teacher shows Slides 44 - 60 of the Healthy Eating slide show. Teacher reinforces student participation and comprehension by circling or recycling the vocabulary with who-what-when-where-why questions about each slide. Teacher can ask for students to volunteer names of famous people as answers to the comprehension questions. Teacher spends up to 2 minutes on each slide.
Independent Practice (25 minutes)
Students assemble in their assigned groups. Students translate their recipes into the Target Language. Students illustrate each food they will present for the class banquet. Teacher encourages students to divide the work in such a way that some are translating and others are illustrating.
Closure
Teacher reminds students that they will present their banquet tomorrow.
