Unit 5: Health
Day Five: Traditional remedies
Objective
- Students will read a selection on traditional remedies. This reading can be in the TL or in English.
- Students will be able to write 5 original questions about the reading and also the answers to these questions.
Setting the Stage (5 minutes)
Teacher has selected reading material about traditional remedies, and provides each student with a copy.
Examples of readings in English about traditional remedies
Each student scans the text for about a minute. The teacher then asks for volunteers to tell what this article is all about.
Input (10 minutes)
The students will read the text silently and will highlight, with a yellow marker, all the words they understand.
Guided Practice (10 minutes)
The students, in pairs, will summarize the reading and will discuss their reactions. The teacher will then ask for volunteers to share their reactions and comments with the whole class.
Independent Practice (10 minutes)
Students will write (in the TL) 5 original questions about the reading and also write the answers for each question: the first question starts with WHO, the second with WHAT, the third with WHEN, the fourth with WHERE and the last with WHY. Save these questions and answers for the game.
The following day, the class plays Blufferama.
