This workshop is designed to empower LCTL teachers with both theoretical and practical means to effectively design standards-based and LCTL specific curriculum and lesson plans. Through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on project, and group discussions, participants will gain knowledge and skills in areas of:
1. key principles of standards-based instruction with specific consideration of less commonly taught languages
2. How to use backward design principles for LCTL thematic units
3. How to adapt a LCTL lesson planning template to one's own specific language and students' needs
4. How to use performance assessment to align curricular goals with instructional strategies and learning outcomes
Workshop Objectives
Gain understanding of key principles of standards-based instruction for LCTLs
Use backward design principles to set curricular goals for a LCTL thematic unit
Become familiar with LCTL lesson planning process and design and adapt one's own language specific lesson templates
Use performance assessment to align curricular goals with instructional strategies and learning outcomes
