The cornerstone project for the National Heritage Language Resource Center is an annual research institute, established to support the Center's principal mission of developing the research base for heritage-language education. The Seventh Institute will focus on advantages of the bilingualism possessed by heritage-language learners.

The NHLRC's mission is to develop effective pedagogical approaches to teaching heritage language learners, both by creating a research base and by pursuing curriculum design, materials development, and teacher education.
