Unit 18: Class banquet

Day four: Planning a menu

Objective

  • Students will work together in a team to plan a recipe book and a "meal" to be presented to their classmates.

Setting the Stage (5 minutes)

Teacher presents a copy of a favorite recipe (preferably one popular in the target culture).

Input (10 minutes)

Teacher explains the recipe and demonstrates the preparation of the recipe with actual ingredients. Then, Teacher produces the fully-prepared food, enough for every student in the class. Teacher puts a portion for each student on a paper plate and volunteers serve this to their classmates.

Independent Practice (nn minutes)

Students assemble in groups of 5. Once assembled, each group will use the remainder of the time in class to research and brainstorm their project: a meal and the recipe for each dish. Teacher will provide a variety of recipe books for the students. If necessary, the students may go to the school library or use the Internet to find recipes.

Closure (5 minutes)

Students report to the teacher what progress they have made.
