Days 4-10: Creating a talk show
Objective
- Students will form groups and prepare a talk show as a group presentation.
- Students will present their talk show to their classmates.
Day four
Setting the Stage (5 minutes)
Teacher hands out a copy of Student Project and Rubric to each student. Students review the assignment.
Input (10 minutes)
Teacher shows a short video clip of a television talk show, with the sound turned off if the language is not the Target Language of instruction. Teacher describes the television talk show in his or her own words as the video clip progresses.
When the video clip is over, Teacher asks students for any questions of clarification they have about their project.
Independent Practice (45-50 minutes)
Teacher forms groups with 5 students in each group. Teacher explains that students are to brainstorm and plan their talk show and write a short description or outline of their talk show. Teacher will collect these plans or outlines
Closure (3-5 minutes)
Teacher encourages students to comment on the process or to ask further questions of clarification.
Teacher collects the outline or plan from each group.
Days five and six
Students will continue their research and preparation for the talk show presentation. Access to the Internet is invaluable.
Day seven
Students will present their talk show to their classmates. Each presentation will last approximately 20 minutes, including questions from the "audience."
Days eight-ten
Depending on the number of groups, student groups will continue presenting their talk shows, until all presentations are completed.
