Day Four: Surveys and results

Objective

Students will be able to read and use expressions of frequency and days of the week,

  1. While interviewing classmates in a survey format.
  2. While tabulating the results of the survey in a class bar graph.

Setting the Stage (5 minutes)

Teacher displays a visual of his/her survey results and his/her bar graph that reflects the survey results. Students, with a classmate, are to discuss what they see.

Input (10 minutes)

Teacher explains and describes a sample survey and bar graph that reflect all the expressions of frequency in the time line used during the previous lesson. Teacher asks yes/no, either/or, what/when/where questions about the content of the survey and bar graph.

Guided Practice (10 minutes)

Students have a blank survey form and must interview 3 different classmates.

Independent Practice (10 minutes)

Students, in groups of 5, create a bar graph that reflects the results of all three of their interviews combined. Sample bar graph

Evaluation (15 minutes)

Students work together as a class to create a "class bar graph" on a large piece of butcher paper, using color coding and colored markers.
