Select from the buttons above to download communicative lesson plans and tools, learn about the foreign language learning framework, or link to US resources for K-12 foreign language teachers.

K-12 materials offered on this site

We offer detailed descriptions of K-12 teaching materials that are available from libraries and retail dealers in North America. We also describe selected authentic native-language materials that are useful in the language classroom, including periodicals, maps, audios, videos, and images of everyday items with language content. Many of the authentic materials can be downloaded from this site. For access to materials, scroll to the search menu at the top of any screen, select a Language, select Secondary or Elementary in the Audience menu, and press Search. You can also limit your search to a particular category of material or proficiency level by selecting from the Material and Level menus.

Goal

The mission of the K-12 Gateway is to support pre-college teaching of Less Commonly Taught Languages. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education's office of International Research and Studies, the Gateway provides information on available published K-12 language teaching materials, links to online resources for language teachers, and a complete set of lesson plans that can be adapted to a variety of languages and grade levels. If you have suggestions for additions to the site, please press the Feedback button and share your ideas.
